A Madison family is going for the record books when it comes to Christmas displays. This Christmas display at the Richardson home on Sun Dial Road in Madison is bigger and better than ever this year.

As usual, they're drawing large numbers of visitors to their street, and now they're in a nationwide competition for the best light show in the nation.

"We've been doing the display for 15 years now," said Hayden Richardson. "It started off real small with just a few inflatables, a manger scene, couple of wire framed deer and over the past couple years, 2011 is when we really got big. There's approximately 200 inflatable's, 100 thousand LED lights, it's all synchronized to music, our station is 99.9 FM."

Four garages and two storage buildings are needed to hold all the stuff in the off season. The display's so big they have to start constructing it every year before Halloween.

This year, it's caught the eye of USA Today, who have put them in their contest for the best Christmas light display in the nation.

"I'm hoping people will go online and vote," said Richardson. "I'm very thankful for the people who have gone online and voted. I think There's 19 houses today they picked from."

The Richardsons say they get joy spreading Christmas cheer, even after looking at their power bill for the months of November and December, which is usually several hundred dollars higher than normal.

The Richardson light display is located at 219 Sun Dial Road. Hours of operation Sun-Thurs 5:30 to 10:00. Fri-Sat 5:30-11:00.
