New MDOC head a familiar face

Governor appoints new MDOC leader


It's rainy, but it's Friday afternoon, so it's still a good day! I'm Howard Ballou with a look at some of the news stories you will see on WLBT.


Governor Phil Bryant has named Marshall Fisher as the new Commissioner of the Mississippi Department of Corrections, replacing Christopher Epps, who resigned in November in the wake of a corruption scandal.


Plus, the fire at The Commons at Eudora Welty's Birthplace has been ruled accidental, according to Chief Greg Travis, who says the fire originated in the fireplace area of the building.


And, the frantic search for a missing 78-year-old Jackson County woman has come to an end. Officials with the Jackson County Sheriff's Department tell us they found Janet Tremmel Johnston on Interstate 10 near exit 61 safe and unharmed.
