JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) - A 4 year old girl is fighting for life after being submerged under water for at least 10 minutes.

Good Samaritans were able to rescue the child and bring her back to life.

We have just learned the name of yet another Good Samaritan who helped rescue her.

William Banks is a youth pastor from Camden. Sheriff Bryan Bailey says he used a knife to cut the child from the restraints that trapped her.

Sherry Jackson says, "The mama was already out of the car, in the water which is about waist deep. She was screaming, 'my baby, my baby, my baby!' Everything was just panic."

Four-year-old Helena White was submerged under water inside the car when Sherry Jackson and her family ran from their home across the street to help.

Jackson says, "We could not get the baby out of the car seat. I guess being upside down and submerged under water, we couldn't get it undone."

Jackson says after at least 10 minutes, she and several others were able to lift the wrecked car out of the water.

Jackson says, "There were more and more people who started getting in and we ended up lifting until we got the car lifted up to get the baby out."

Deputy Wade Spencer says, "I got out of the car and Mrs. Jackson and myself performed CPR on her for approximately four minutes. She started breathing and she was transported by AMR."

Just days before her 5th birthday, Helena remains in critical condition at UMMC.

Sheriff Bryan Bailey says, "Just the multitude of people that stopped, jumped in that water. They are calling themselves saying they are not heroes. They are heroes. The little girl is in critical condition right now, but if nobody would have acted she wouldn't have had a chance."

Jackson says, "She was blue and wasn't breathing and no pulse. We got her on the side and started CPR and then miracles, guardian angels, I don't know. The Lord saw that she came back and we are hoping for a full recovery."

If you'd like to help the family with medical bills, there is an account set up online.

We're told the family will receive all the proceeds.
