ROSS BARNETT RESERVOIR, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

It's become a New Year's Day tradition at the Reservoir. Adventure seekers gather to take a January dive off the dock for the Polar Bear Plunge.

"You literally lose your breath for 10 seconds, then when you come up you're like oh my gosh, I've got to get out of here now," says Alice Agner.

No one will push these people into the frigid depths of the Ross Barnett Reservoir. They're choosing to jump in - in the dead of winter. All of this in order to raise awareness for the inclusive summer camp at the Reservoir YMCA.

Some are dressed for a cold swim, but others are not. After a prayer on the dock they all go down together.

This is the third year for the Polar Bear Plunge at the Reservoir. They say they are thankful it's over for another year, but in the same breath, vowing to do it again next year.
