PRENTISS, Miss. (AP) - The National Weather Service issued tornado watches and warnings in parts of Mississippi as severe weather moved through that state and neighboring southeastern Louisiana.
One Saturday afternoon warning was in Jefferson Davis County, where the service said a tornado was reported on the ground in the area of the Oak Vale community. The Sheriff's Office and the Prentiss police and fire departments had no initial reports of major damage or injuries.
Warnings were also in effect in parts of Jasper and Smith counties at mid-afternoon Saturday because radar indicated a storm capable of producing tornadoes in the area of Taylorsville. Tornado and severe storm watches also were in effect in southeastern Louisiana.
