JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) - Katherine Kelly, a nurse that works for a private medical company that oversees all medical duties at the Raymond Detention Center, has been arrested and charged with smuggling contrabands inside of a correctional facility.

Kelly, who admitted to providing cell phones and other contrabands to inmates, resigned in late December 2014 and was arrested yesterday by Hinds County deputies.

Kelly, who upon initial questioning and through inmate verification confessed to the crime, worked the 3rd Shift at the Raymond Detention Center.

"As we continue to strengthen our efforts of cracking down on contrabands entering into our facility, one of our top priorities is to ensure those individuals employed by outside companies like Ms. Kelly and those employed directly by the HCSO are above board and trustworthy," said Tyrone Lewis, Hinds County Sheriff. "Behavior like this will not be tolerated."

Initial investigation shows that Kelly had been providing cell phones to a number of inmates.
