JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) - The Sanderson Farms Championship drew a record number of golfers and spectators to their annual tournament last year.
They also broke records on the amount of money they raised for their Batson Children's Hospital charity.

This year the Sanderson Farms Championship raised $1,102,700.00 for charity, their largest donation ever, and over twice as much as they raised last year.

Organizers say there were a number of things that led to their success; good weather, relocating the tournament to the Country Club of Jackson, which they received a lot of positive feedback about, and a good turnout of pro golfers, and spectators.

Governor Phil Bryant and Sanderson Farms C E O and Chairman Joe Sanderson were on hand for the check presentation.   The Batson Children's hospital treats more than 1,000 babies and children yearly.

"I have a personal interest here, my grand daughter has been a patient here on more than one occasion," said Joe Sanderson. "I know the needs here, the future needs of this hospital, this hospital is going to expand at some point. We wanna be a part of that too."

"It is heart wrenching at times to see what the children and their parents go through but it's also a miracle to see them walk out that front door," said Governor Phil Bryant.

Some of the golf charity funds will go to provide a much needed expansion of the hospital, including operating rooms, and a new specialized imaging center.
