JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

As part of an ongoing investigation into contrabands being found inside of Hinds County Detention Centers, Sheriff Tyrone Lewis fired a Detention Officer Wednesday.

The investigation revealed Detention Officer Antionette Dominique Blockmon violated several departmental policies and procedures including conduct unbecoming of an officer, misconduct and a breach of security.

The investigation concluded that Blockmon brought her cell phone into the Jackson Detention Center while on duty, communicated with inmates using her phone while on duty and neglected to perform her duties as detention officer when she identified inmates with contraband.

"I want the public to understand that this type of behavior will not be tolerated," said Lewis. "As part of our continued efforts to ensure that we operate a clean and professional facility, we will remain steadfast in our efforts. Those folk that work for us are held to a higher standard and must govern themselves accordingly."

Blockmon had been employed with the Hinds County Sheriff's Office since March 2014.
