Kalen Jackson will transfer to South Alabama

BIRMINGHAM (WLBT) - Last month, Mike Sands told you the story of Kalen Jackson. The Magee native played linebacker this season at the University of Alabama-Birmingham. The school decided to shut the football program down, leaving a lot of players looking for a place to play.

Kalen told AL.com on Thursday that he will transfer from UAB to South Alabama. He will be the 9th Blazer to head south to play in Mobile. Jackson played two games in 2014 for UAB. That included a interception from Dak Prescott in a loss to Mississippi State. That same game ended Jackson's season. He suffered a torn ACL in the 3rd quarter.

He will be ready in time for spring practice. The Jaguars play in the Sun Belt Conference. USA was 6-7 in 2014, reaching their first bowl game in program history. The Jags fell to Bowling Green 33-28 in the Raycom Media Camellia Bowl.
