Suspected carjackers busted in south Jackson

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Police have taken two men into custody following an intense manhunt of a South Jackson neighborhood.

On Tuesday morning, Jackson Police, with the help of several other agencies, were searching for two men they considered armed and dangerous.

Police swarmed Woodside Drive in south Jackson . Neighbors were terrified as police surrounded houses and blocked off the street.

The two suspects allegedly carjacked an SUV early Tuesday morning and then wrecked it during a police chase. 

Authorities were going from house to house, in that neighborhood, searching for the men. 

Metro 1 air support was brought in to assist in the search. 

During some of the searching, Marshall Elementary was lock down. Parents were notified of the situation thought the JPS parent notification system. 

JPD says many as four armed carjackings happened overnight. It's not clear how many they believe these men were involved in, but they do say the carjackings might be linked to other crimes.

"From our standpoint they were very dangerous suspects and if we had to stay out here the next two weeks to catch them then that's what we were going to do," Police Chief Lee Vance told us.

The suspects were taken down with no resistance, and have not been identified yet.
