JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) - Earlier this month, a baby was found dead in a Jackson home and his parents were arrested for his murder. Now, the grandmother of the baby is speaking out.

Jeannette Kees is still reeling after the death of her 9-month-old grandson, Corey Kees. But she insists that her son is innocent.

Kees says she sensed something was going wrong and she wishes she would have trusted that instinct.

She says she was at the home during the time the tragedy struck.

"At 9:30 my son changed his diaper. He was fine at 9:30 and at 2:30 I was woken up by my son screaming for help," Kees tells us.

At first the cause of death was accidental, but an autopsy showed the baby died from blunt force trauma to the head. Police charged both Alex Kees and his girlfriend Sarah Strickland with capital murder.

Kees says, "My son adored his son and there's no way that he would ever do anything to harm his children."

Now the Kees are dealing with death threats.

"I really feel that until you know the facts maybe you shouldn't make a comment because I assure you, had I known someone was doing something to Corey they wouldn't have been in this house," she says.

The family is also dealing with the stress of not being able to properly bury their grandson.

Kees says, "Both parents are in jail so they have to have a court order to bury the baby."

She tells us that the couple got into a physical fight on New Years Eve and she says from then things went downhill, but she never thought it would end in Corey's death.

She wishes she could have done more.

"If you suspect that somebody is doing something to a child don't wait. Don't wait until you have proof. That's what I was waiting for...proof. Well now I have my proof. I have a dead grandson."
