Local veteran remembered as 'courageous father,' Iraq war veteran, and friend

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) - Friends are remembering and honoring a local veteran and member of the Mississippi Army National Guard, Sgt. Jacob Campbell.

Brian Hunter, reached out to us on Facebook to talk about his friend and what his family is doing to honor his memory.

Brian says that his friend was "a courageous father, a veteran, and one of my closest friends... [His] smile brought joy to anyone who came across him."

According to his GoFundMe page, Jacob was 28-years-old with a 6-year-old son. 

He says his friend passed away on Wednesday night from a very aggressive form of leukemia.

Jacob was diagnosed with AML, Acute Myelogenous Leukemia in October of last year.

Sgt. Campbell, according to his friend, was a member of the Mississippi Army National Guard, a soldier at the joint force headquarters in Jackson, and a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
