BRANDON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
In Rankin County Court, 29-year-old Reginald Davis, charged with felony DUI in the death of a Belhaven student athlete, Trey Rich, was denied bond. Investigators say blood tests show Davis was intoxicated the night of the accident that killed Rich.
Rich was riding his bicycle home from his job at FedEx when he was struck and killed by Davis on Christmas Eve. Davis had already admitted to drinking that night.
"Mr. Davis, at the time of the accident, was out on supervised probation from the Department of Corrections and that he has twice been convicted of automobile burglary," said Rankin-Madison District Attorney Michael Guest. "At this point, we do intend to go forward with this case as an habitual offender which means if he is convicted as an habitual offender, he will have to serve the entire sentence in this case without the possibility of probation or parole."
