School will be out soon, but that doesn't mean school districts are NOT preparing for the next semester. Jackson public schools' Superintendent wants more input from parents on how to handle discipline problems and create positive behavior.

We have a copy of the JPS Code of Conduct. It's a pretty thick book. It's been violated by students from time and time. And disciplinary action has followed we are told.

Now the Superintendent is turning to parents. He wants parents and grandparents to have a voice and help shape a new culture of respect.

"So for the upcoming school year we are asking parents to get engaged by first reviewing the student code of conduct and now sharing their feedback," Dr. Cedric Gray told reporters.

And Parents for Jackson Public Schools say they are buying into this new concept. Monique Davis is a member of Parents for Public Schools.

"When you get the parents and the school district and the teachers involved in creating a standard, then it's going to be a better standard that really reflects the needs of the community," said Davis.

The Superintendent says this is not something to play about. He realizes that parents are busy, others are struggling, still others are absent in the home, but if they come together and participate and let their voice be known about this code of conduct, then this may soon transform into a conduct of better behavior in Jackson Public Schools.
