2 students killed in car accident: Driver charged with DUI

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) - Students are expected to gather at a Memphis school, for a prayer vigil in memory of two classmates that were killed in a weekend car crash in Mississippi.

The accident happened Sunday on Highway 78 in Marshall County, near the Desoto County line.

17-year-old Rachel Lynch, and 17-year-old Maddie Kruse died in the crash.

Both girls were students at Briarcrest Christian School in Memphis.

Three other people were also in the vehicle but are expected to be okay.

The driver of the other car, 32-year-old Melandus Penson, is charged with two counts of DUI death and two counts of DUI injury.

Penson is being held at the Marshall County Jail.

He is expected to appear in court this morning.
