Seth Heck named a Academic All-American

STARKVILLE ( – Two-time Southeastern Conference baseball Scholar-Athlete of the Year Seth Heck of Mississippi State was named to the Capital One Academic All-America second team, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced Thursday. Heck is the 18th player in school history and the first since SEC Pitcher of the Year Chris Stratton in 2012 to earn academic All-America honors.

In the classroom, the Edmonds, Washington, native recorded a perfect 4.0 GPA every semester he spent studying in Starkville. The last two seasons, Heck has been named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll and has been voted by the league's 14 coaches as the top scholar-athlete in the conference. This past month, Heck received his degree in business administration.

The college graduate was one of two SEC players to earn academic All-America honors this year (Auburn's Cole Lipscomb). Heck was also MSU's male nominee for the SEC H. Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete Post-Graduate Scholarship, presented annually to the league's top scholar-athlete.

Heck and his teammates recorded a composite 3.07 GPA in the 2015 spring semester, the 10th-straight semester MSU has tallied a 3.0 or higher under the direction of head coach John Cohen.
