CLINTON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

If shopping is your thing, a new venue is headed your way.

Construction on a shopping center called Robinson Spring is set to begin in the coming months in Clinton. It will be built in a wooded area at the corner of highway 80 and Springridge Road.

With 245-thousand square feet of retail space, Mayor Phil Fisher believes it will be the economic boost his city needs.

Mayor Phil Fisher says, "We'll be able to retain more of the sales tax our citizens will have shorter distances to travel to ship just, a win win for all of us."

The $39 million shopping center will sit on 38 acres.

Why the name Robinson Spring you ask?

That comes from an actual spring which still exists on the site.

Developers Blackwater Resources out of Birmingham says they plan to incorporate that into the final design.

Mayor Fisher says, "There's some 35 thousand cars a day that go right by the city limits, the exit, so they should be able to come right up and the building is going to mirror as best it can the college across the street from it."

Robinson Springs is promising a wide variety of retail shopping and restaurants.

Shoppers we talked to are excited to see what's to come.

Nancy Alford says, "I think it's great.  I think Clinton could use some more attractions, stores shopping centers.  Bring in some tax dollars.  Anything to help our community."

Lindsey Fyke says, "I think it's a great idea I think Clinton has needed this for some time, and I hope we support it."

Groundbreaking for the shopping center is set for August, with an early 2017 completion date.
