Waffle House beating victim remembered at vigil

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Friends and family gathered at a candlelight vigil for the man who died after being robbed and beaten at the Waffle House on High Street in Jackson last week.

Several turned out Friday night to celebrate life of 52-year-old Eric Hambrick just a few feet away from that robbery.

Many sang songs and shared experiences of how they knew Hambrick.

He worked for the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency, but also took time to sing with local choral organizations.

He died over the weekend after being robbed and beaten last Thursday night outside the restaurant.

"Just always a pleasure to be around Eric, to be in a show with him, just to be able to sing with him," said Steven Densmore, who organized the vigil. "His personality was so radiant. He was just a loving, outgoing person. He would do anything for anybody."

Jackson police arrested two people in connection to Hambrick's death: 19-year-old Arkel Coleman and 18-year-old Shrederrick Anderson.

Both are being held without bond after confessing to the crime.

The two are charged with one count each of murder and strong armed robbery.
