Homeowner frustrated over deadly shooting during party

TCHULA, MS (Mississippi News Now) - Gunfire interrupted a birthday party at a home in Tchula this weekend, killing one man and injuring another.

Now the homeowner who threw that party says he wants the violence to stop.

What happened outside Calvin Greer's home was something he never expected.

He already told his niece she could have her birthday party there on Friday night.

Then, sometime around midnight Saturday, three gunshots outside the home silenced that celebration.

Greer said a bullet went through his window and grazed a young man inside. Afterward, he and his brother stepped out to investigate.

"We were out here screaming, saying, 'Who's out here shooting? Who is it out here shooting?'" Greer said.

His gaze then turned to his neighbor's yard next door, where he saw a man on the ground. The person wasn't moving, Greer said.

"He was laying on his stomach. We turned him over to see who he was, a young man that I know, they call him 'Plot,'" Greer said.

When he got to 27-year-old Anthony Hogan, Greer realized it was too late.

"We didn't get no pulse or anything of any nature. He wasn't breathing," he said.

Greer said he didn't know who killed Hogan, nor what started the incident.

"It was too many people outside for not nobody to have seen something," he said. "I'd just like to say to all the young people that we need to stop all this killing and put these guns away, and just live."
