RAYMOND, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
An investigation into Thursday night's disturbance at the Hinds County Detention Center shows there was a serious and severe breach of policy and procedures by several detention officers.
In a statement released Friday afternoon, spokesman Othor Cain said at this point the breach appears deliberate and concerted.
"Based on the results of the investigation, swift and immediate disciplinary action will be taken for any violations of policy and procedures," Cain added in the statement. "The Hinds County Sheriff's Office has a zero tolerance policy as it relates to policy violations."
Between 9:15 and 9:45 Wednesday night, deputes and investigators responded to a situation in the POD A housing unit. This resulted in an altercation between an inmate and two male officers. The officers received minor injuries and were taken to a local hospital where they were treated and released.
