MDWFP officers rescue missing women

LAUDERDALE COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) - On June 7, Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, & Parks (MDWFP) Conservation Officers received information that two women were missing from a group of people on a morning tubing trip on the Chunky River in Lauderdale County.

One of the women reported missing had severe asthma and lost her inhaler.

MDWFP Officers Tyler Norman, Joseph Jones, and Tyler Robinson found Betty Wilkinson on Monday, June 8, at 2:30 a.m. She was in a briar thicket on the edge of a sandbar, and was having severe difficulty breathing.

Officers Robinson and Norman physically carried WIlkinson across the Chunky River, up a steep bank, and onto an ATV for emergency transport to an awaiting Metro Ambulance.

Officers Robinson and Jones located Tammy Mazzulla on Monday June 8, at 3:15 a.m.

Both Wilkinson and Mazzulla were taken to Rush Hospital in Meridian where they were treated and released.
