Investigation leads to barbershop drug bust in Hinds County

HINDS COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) - An investigation in Hinds County led narcotics officers to local barbershop "Cut City" on Bullard Street, where they served a search warrant.

During the search, officers discovered about three ounces of high-grade marijuana, two handguns, liquid codeine and a variety of pills.

Lieutenant Craig Oster with the Hinds County Sheriff's Department said "We've got about a hundred tabs of Ecstasy, which goes on the street for anywhere from $15 to $25 dollars a tab, a hundred dosage units of Xanax, and a hundred dosage units of Hydrocodone."

Officers also seized more than $1800 dollars.

At least 3 people were arrested.

Oster said, "The guns are the main issue here that we seem to have a problem with, and you know, we've seen so many guns in this administration and drugs and currency. There's been an influx, but we're rolling with the punches. We work with JPD narcotics daily, and that's been a very successful joint operation, that we work together."

Lieutenant Oster said the investigation also revealed a troubling trend, with drug busts in residential neighborhoods taking a backseat to operations in other places you might never have suspected.

Oster explained, "We're getting accustomed to a lot more of these being in businesses. Whether it's a front, we don't know that yet. We do know that this is the first time we've been in this area."
