Inmate involved in jail disturbance identified

HINDS COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) - The inmate involved in the disturbance at the Hinds County Jail June 11 has been identified a 22-year-old Tracey Coleman.

He's was booked into the facility in January of this year on charges of murder, aggravated assault and shoplifting. He will now face an additional charge of aggravate assault on a law enforcement officer.

At this point in the investigation, the Hinds County Sheriff Office says its employees deliberately broke "policies and procedures."

The investigation is continuing and when it's finished Sheriff Tyrone Lewis promises swift action on all those involved.

"I want to make it known that based on the outcome of this investigation, we will hand down swift and stern punishment that could include suspension and or termination," said Tyrone Lewis, Sheriff of Hinds County. "Protecting the safety and integrity of our staff, inmates and facilities is my top priority."
