Officials: Man who killed grandparents could face death penalty

Back from vacation and a stormy "hump day" Wednesday afternoon in the Jackson metro area. I'm Howard Ballou with a look at some of the news stories you will see on WLBT.

Rankin County authorities believe a Pearl couple was murdered by their grandson, 22 year-old Zachary Alexander Stanford, now in custody in the Rankin County Detention Center and Stanford could face the death penalty.

Plus, U.S. Senator Thad Cochran has released a statement regarding the heated controversy over the state flag of Mississippi. Cochran is in support of changing the flag, amid recent debate on its symbolism. 

And, more than 2,300 people have paid their respects to a state senator killed in the massacre at Emanuel AME Church in Charleston. They are passing by the casket of Sen. Clementa Pinckney at the State House.

In sports, Monta Ellis decides to opt out of the final year of his contract with the Mavs.
