JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) - An early morning drugstore robbery in Jackson has police on the lookout for those responsible.

Officer Colendula Green said it happened around 3:30 Thursday morning at the Walgreens on Canton Mart Road.

She said two individuals came into the store carrying weapons, and went over the pharmacy counter, stealing an undisclosed amount of prescription drugs.

In all, the men made off with more than 2,500 pills -- some of which were hydrocodone -- valued on the street at around $10,000.

The two also stole an undisclosed amount of cash.

One source said the pharmacy clerk was told to get on her knees with a gun held to her head.

No one was injured in the incident.

"People are affected by this -- in some cases -- for the rest of their lives. That's why I think it's such a cowardly act for these particular suspects to come into the store armed and traumatize people who are only trying to make a living," Jackson Police Chief Lee Vance said.

Some who frequent the store said the lack of security inside and the dark parking lot could have contributed to the armed robbery.

Calls placed to Walgreens' corporate office for comment on those matters were not immediately returned.

Jackson police and the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics are investigating the robbery.
