USM weighs in on flag issue

USM: "State flag does not represent the spirit of Mississippians"

Sunny and hot in the Jackson metro area. I'm Howard Ballou with a look at some of the news stories you will see on WLBT.

The University of Southern Mississippi has released a statement regarding the state flag and you can click on this link to read it in its entirety.

Meanwhile, Republican Gov. Phil Bryant says he will not call Mississippi lawmakers back to the Capitol to consider removing a Confederate battle emblem from the state flag.

And, JPD  responded to a shooting on at the Crown Motel on Boling Street where they found a woman shot in the thigh.

In sports, the second half of the Southern League season starts with the M-Braves hosting the Pensacola Blue Wahoos in a 5 game series.
