VICKSBURG, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
Saturday night at the Vicksburg Convention Center a new Miss Mississippi will be crowned and go on to represent this state at the Miss America Pageant.
In the final round of preliminary competition there were five singers including last year's first runner up Laura Lee Lewis, who won the swim wear preliminary Thursday night. The judges' choice was Miss Leaf River Valley Michaela Moore. This is her third year at the pageant and her first preliminary win.
Michaela Moore said, "It's called, They Just Keep Moving The Line, and it's from the TV show Smash. It's kind of got that musical theater feel and musical theater is my passion, what I love to do and the song is just about always reaching your goals and always striving to be better. And I feel like it really applied to me and to my progress in this pageant.”
In swim wear, familiar names, Morgan Burnett, Miss Pearl River Valley who made the Top 10 last year, along with Carol Coker, Miss Natchez Trace who also made the Top 10 in 2014, and Hannah Roberts, Miss University of Southern Mississippi who was first runner up in 2013. Roberts won the talent preliminary Wednesday playing violin and added a win in Friday's swim wear prelim.
Roberts told us, "I actually do a lot of so called boy workouts. I have asthma and so it's kind of hard for me to do a lot of cardio such as running or biking. So I substituted that with weight training and weight lifting . I did squats, I did bicep curls, I did rows.
"Roberts is the only contestant to win in both talent and swim wear this year. Something Miss Mississippi, Jasmine Murray also accomplished in 2014.
The next time we're on this stage here at the Vicksburg Convention Center we'll know who Miss Mississippi 2015 will be.
You can watch the pageant live on WLBT, Saturday night at 8 p.m.
