PEARL, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Defending World Champions, Mississippi Lion's All-State Band, wins 31st World Championship in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Jeff Cannon, Director of this year's Mississippi Lions All-State Band tells me the actual competition was Saturday and the results were released Sunday in Honolulu.

We're told four judges gave the Mississippi Band 100, 99, 98, and 89 and Michigan came in 2nd Place.

Cannon said winning the World Championship is the result of "145 very talented and self-motivated kids from all over the state who worked very hard at camp,".

" This 'boot camp' lasted for a week in brutal heat at Jones Junior College prior to their departure for Hawaii," Cannon added.

Cannon said that "today's results are icing on the cake; the kids have been wonderful ambassadors for the State of Mississippi."

Eight hundred fifty-two students auditioned for the 145 spots in the Lions All-State Band.
