Police swarm home of woman reported missing; two people arrested

VICKSBURG, MS (Mississippi News Now) - The search continued into Sunday evening for a Vicksburg woman whose home was reportedly ransacked with no trace of her.


There was a huge police presence at the home 2502 Drummond Street around 3:30 p.m.

Leland Police Chief Billy Barber said two men were arrested during a traffic stop Sunday morning, when they were found with a stolen weapon and in a stolen vehicle, believed to be connected to an ongoing investigation in Vicksburg.

Chief Barber told us one person taken into custody is a convicted felon. And that person will be charged with being a convicted felon in possession of a fire arm and being in possession of a stolen fire arm.

The two unidentified men are being questioned by Leland Police.


Vicksburg officers were on the scene at Drummond St. well into the evening processing evidence.

There are unconfirmed reports that someone had gone through the woman's house, but there are no sign from the street that there was forced entry.

Vicksburg's Mayor George Flaggs was also at the home where family members were gathered.

The name of the woman has not been released at this time.

WVBG news radio in Vicksburg is reporting that the homeowner can't be found and her vehicle was located near Leland.

We contacted the Vicksburg Police Department and were only told that officers were at the scene of suspicious activity at that location.

Chief Walter Armstrong told WVBG that he dispatched a team of investigators to process both the house and vehicle.

Armstrong has not returned our calls for comment.
