JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) - A police chase into Jackson Sunday evening ended with one person being taken into custody.

Captain Brian McGairty with the Pearl Police Department, said it all started around 6:30 p.m. Sunday when Pearl Police located a stolen vehicle near the city of Pearl.

We're told as officers attempted to make a traffic stop on the vehicle, the vehicle fled on Highway 80 west into the city of Jackson.

The pursuit ended just a few miles later when the driver and two occupants bailed out of the vehicle near Gallatin and Winter Street in Jackson.

The driver and front passenger were able to escape, one of them was armed with a hand gun.

McGairty said the back seat passenger was taken into custody after a brief foot pursuit. He had no form of identification on him at the time of apprehension and told police he was 16-years-old. Police are still working to verify his identity and age.

Captain McGairty also said two guns were recovered from the vehicle, a 40 caliber handgun and an AR-15 (rifle).

Pearl Police are continuing to investigate the case.
