JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) - Republican Governor Phil Bryant has repeatedly stated his opposition to same sex marriage. Tuesday we caught up with the Governor to get his reaction to weddings that began Monday.

Governor Bryant told us his lawyers are sending a letter to the U.S. Court of Appeals. The Governor said there remain questions about the new law of the land passed by the U.S. Supreme Court.

"I want to make sure whatever rights Mississippi has we exercise," said Governor Bryant. "The other thing we are looking at is a settlement, whether legal fees are involved in that, how does that process work,  I just have the lawyers looking at how do we settle this with the protection of the state of Mississippi in mind."

On Monday Mississippi Attorney General Jim hood gave the go-ahead for Circuit Clerks statewide to issue marriage licenses. Hood suggested if there was any attempt to stall marriage licenses the state could be sued.
