CANTON, MS (Mississippi News Now) - We have new information in the double shooting in Canton. One woman is dead and the surviving victim is in a coma at UMMC.

Relatives of Carolyn Flowers said she had a troubled past involving drugs, but was turning her life around and they don't understand why her life had to be taken so tragically.

"They didn't have to do my sister like that. God in heaven knows they didn't," said Marlyon Flowers."

She was in shock after learning about the shooting death of her sister 46 year old Carolyn Flowers of Canton. Her bullet riddled body was found face down behind a house on Franklin Street around 12:30 Tuesday morning.

Also found shot was 52 year old Melvin Esco also of Canton who managed to get to a nearby home and plead for help.

"She'd give you whatever she had," said Flowers. "She didn't meddle nobody. My sister didn't have no enemies around here, none of that."

But her mother believes otherwise and thinks the motive involves Esco.

"He was playing this other woman and my daughter and the woman had been to her house several times, kicking the door down, throwing beer bottles and all that stuff," said Flowers' mother. "They would call the police on her."

"At this time, no motive of what took place down there," said Canton Police Chief Otha Brown. "Some family members had come up and talked to some of the detectives here at the Canton Police Department and they are investigating."

According to relatives, Flowers had battled drug addiction for 15 years but was now living for her seven children and five grandchildren.

"She was trying to get her life back in order," said sister Tammy Flowers. "She was going to church, but unfortunately," said sister Tammy Flowers.

"I just heard a bunch of fuss like they were bumping on the wall or something," said Lee Henderson, who called 911 to report the shootings. "I didn't know what it was and I came out the door and I saw the man on the porch and he was bloodied all up."

So far no arrests have been made.
