FLORA, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Exclusive new information on James Alderman, the former Flora Police Officer and one-time police chief, who sits in jail accused of fondling 3- and 6-year-old children. As the investigation continues, we have found out about a prior complaint against him.

Since our story ran Thursday about Alderman's court appearance, our phones have been ringing. We have spoken to the mother of one of the victims named in the affidavit. Some of her comments led us back up to Flora on Friday.

We confirmed with Flora Assistant Police Chief Clifton Nelson that about a week ago, when Alderman was still an officer, a different mother came into the police station to take care of some minor business, and she had her two young children with her.

She ended up filing a citizens complaint alleging that Alderman approached one of her children and touched the child in a manner that the mother considered inappropriate.

That incident, other sources tell us, is what touched off the investigation that led to Alderman's arrest on Wednesday.

The affidavit that we obtained says the fondling incidents involving 3- and 6- year old children occurred at Alderman's home on Wilder Drive in Flora, where his wife Lori runs a daycare. The affidavit says the incidents occurred between December and January. The affidavit states Alderman "did willfully, unlawfully, and feloniously for the purpose of gratifying his lust or indulging his depraved licentious sexual desires, handle, touch or rub with hands, mouth, and penis" the two children.

According to Madison County Sheriff Randy Tucker, Alderman's interview with investigators leads them to believe that more victims are out there, and the probe may reach back several years.

We are bringing you new details on this story as they become available.
