JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

July 4th is not only for celebrating the country's independence but the love of family.
Many across the metro and country hold family reunions on the holiday.
The Green/O'Banner Family reunion activities were going on Saturday afternoon at Christ Mission Industrial School in Jackson.
More than 400 relatives have traveled from California, Florida, Ohio, across the state and beyond to spend time with family.
Various t-shirt designs represent the different branches of the family.
There was plenty of fun, southern cooking and reminiscing.
This family reunion began in the early 1950's.

"We're in a sense celebrating the birthday of America but because we were not included in the main street equation for so long, our sub-celebration would be to celebrate ourselves as a family on this particular day as America celebrates it's birthday as well," said 63 year old Robert Denson who traveled from Cleveland Ohio.

The oldest in attendance is 93 and the youngest is four months old.
Sunday the Green/O'Banner descendants will travel to Bentonia for services at their home church Mount Nebo.
