Charges still pending in Kosciusko pedestrian fatality

KOSCIUSKO, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

While sheriff's deputies await toxicology results in an accident that left a Kosciusko man dead, the man behind the wheel remains free.

Attala County Sheriff Tim Nail said Earl Barksdale Jr., 23, died Saturday, June 27, shortly after someone hit him with their car on Black Jack Road.

Nail said charges are pending against that driver, Nicholas Steen of Attala County, because deputies don't yet know whether the driver had anything in his system that could have contributed to the collision.

The department obtained a search warrant for Steen's blood and subsequently sent it off for testing.

Nail said the autopsy results establish the cause of death as blunt force injuries caused by the wreck.

Barksdale was laid to rest Friday.
