Toxicology report may mean charges

Charges still pending in Kosciusko pedestrian fatality

Hope your 4th of July holiday weekend was fun. The sunshine is back on this Monday afternoon in the Jackson metro area. I'm Howard Ballou with a look at some of the news stories you will see on WLBT.

While sheriff's deputies await toxicology results in an accident that left a Kosciusko man dead, the man behind the wheel remains free. Attala County Sheriff Tim Nail said Earl Barksdale Jr., 23, died Saturday, June 27, shortly after someone hit him with their car on Black Jack Road.

Plus, Attorney General Jim Hood announced the terms of a settlement that Mississippi and 16 other States have reached with Dollar Tree, following a review of the company’s proposed purchase of Family Dollar Stores.

And, Mississippians supporting the state flag, which includes the Confederate battle emblem, were rallying at the State Capitol this morning.

In sports, sisters battle it out on the tennis court and it's Serena who comes away with the win.
