July 8, 1963: Dedication ceremony for the new Jackson Municipal Airport at Allen C. Thompson Field.

The airport replaced Hawkins Field as the city's primary airport, and it was built on land that had been annexed by the City of Jackson, even though it was in Rankin County and not physically connected to the rest of the city.

Its name was changed to Jackson International Airport in 1989. In 2005, it became Jackson-Evers International Airport, in honor of slain civil rights leader and Jackson resident Medgar Evers. Later, Evers' full name was added, making it the Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport.
