Gate dispute leads to Simpson County death

SIMPSON COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Simpson County Deputies responded to a 911 Call Thursday evening around 7:30 on Murray Stingley Road and found Jerry Lyle dead from a gun shot wound.

The investigation reveals the shooting followed a fight between Lyle and James Lawn over a gate on Murray Stingley Road.

Sheriff Kenneth Lewis tells us it appears that Lyle, upset over the gate, chased down Lawn on his tractor and pulled a pistol. He then began to assault Lawn and tried to pull him off his tractor.

At that point, Lawn pulled his pistol and shot Lyle.

Sheriff Lewis says no arrests have been made and it is still an ongoing investigation, adding that the case will be presented to the Simpson County Grand Jury in September.
