JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Restoring Jackson Streets; progress is beginning to take shape.,

"I'm all behind Jackson for what they are trying to do to the streets to make a better driving area for all the people around the community," said Terrence Davis.

But Davis said it's been a struggle in front of his home dealing with a pothole that sits on busy Ellis Avenue.

"I see people come through here everyday flying," said Davis. "Near misses, near accidents everyday, everyday, every night and they are flying. And I have to go all the way down the street and turn around just to turn in my driveway."

Luckily for Davis, his street was on the city's list of pothole fixes on Friday.City of Jackson Director of Communications, Shelia Byrd, said Operation Orange Cone has started and you will see more streets being paved and resurfaced. Byrd said this is just the start of a larger picture in which they are digging deeper to get to the real root of infrastructure problems.

"This is interim work that we are doing to address immediate needs, said Byrd. "We have a long term plan which is the infrastructure master plan and that is a 20 year plan. And that will overhaul our entire infrastructure system."

Crews prepped Claiborne Avenue Friday to start paving Monday. There will be a total of 14 streets paved in July.

"If it helps with the solution, I'm all for it," added Davis.

If you want to report a pothole or infrastructure problem call, 311.
