RANKIN COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

According to the Rankin County Sheriff's Department, a woman was shot in the head by her husband.

The incident occurred Sunday night, sometime around 8:30 on Pipeline Road, just off of Lake Harbor Road in Brandon.

When deputies arrived on scene they immediately arrested the husband, Michael William Farmer.

Lake Harbor Fire Department and AMR responded to the victim and immediately began treating her.

Witnesses say Farmer was overheard telling the victim that he was going to “kill her” and that she was holding their baby in her arms when she was shot.

Deputies also learned that an accomplice, Michael Scott Minton, took the pistol used in the assault from the scene and attempted to get rid of it.

Authorities have recovered parts of the weapon, and are searching for additional parts.

Farmer was taken to the Rankin County Jail and is being charged with Attempted Murder.

Minton was taken to jail and charged with Obstruction of Justice.

Both suspects will appear before the Rankin County Court on the charges.

The District Attorney will present the case to the next Rankin County Grand Jury.

Officials tell us the woman was transported to River Oaks Hospital in Madison with what appears to be non-life threatening injuries.

She has been released from the hospital.
