JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Dozens gathered outside the Governor's mansion Thursday night for a special prayer vigil. The ceremony was led by local pastors who say they want to see the Confederate emblem removed from the state flag.

The crowd was diverse with many saying, the state flag is hurting the state of Mississippi in more ways than one. Many of the pastors say that because the state is still flying the flag, businesses are hesitant to come to the state.

Samuel Boyd, Pastor at Pearl Street AME Church said it's time to let the flag go.

"We are blocking blessings from coming into the state of MS economically, causing a lot of problems as a result of that," said Pastor Boyd. And until we see that there is something, something greater, other than ourselves and our feelings, we will continue to be  in that path."

The pastors say they intend to continue holding prayer vigils until changes are made to the state flag.
