JFP Chick Ball raises money to combat domestic violence

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

People from all over the metro came together to take a stand against domestic violence Saturday night.

The Jackson Free Press Chick Ball started more than a decade ago to bring more awareness to the problem of domestic and interpersonal violence.

This year, the proceeds will go toward the Mississippi Coalition Against Domestic Violence, which has thirteen different shelters throughout the Magnolia State.

"Those programs are very important to our community because for individuals who are experiencing domestic violence, it's a place to go for support and resources, as well as a refuge," said Wendy Mahoney, executive director of the Mississippi Coalition Against Domestic Violence.

A silent auction and collection of live bands rounded out the festivities.
