JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A fire, that started behind the downtown Jackson Marriott Hotel on Sunday, will affect employees at the Central High School Building, who work for the MS Department of Education.

The building will be closed for at least three days, beginning Monday, July 20, through Wednesday, July 22.

The fire triggered the sprinkler system in the Central High School Building, causing some water accumulation on the 2nd floor, said Patrice Guilfoyle, Director of Communications for MDE.

MS Dept. of Education staff  who work in the Central High School Building have been asked to work from home or from alternate locations as needed Monday through Wednesday and to remain available by phone or email during the work day. All other MDE employees who do not work in the Central High School Building are to report to work as usual.

The Central High School Building will reopen after the fire marshal has cleared the building for use.

The MDE will provide updates as new information becomes available.
