JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

CelticFest Mississippi is an annual celebration of the music, dance and culture of Celtic nations and will be held on September 11th thru 13th at the Mississippi Agricultural and Forestry Museum.

CelticFest, founded and organized by the Celtic Heritage Society, will kick off the weekend events on Friday from 7:00 p.m. till midnight, and run from 10:00 a.m. to midnight the following two days.

The weekend-long festival will feature an exceptional variety of Irish and Scottish music and dance on eight stages, plus free Celtic music, dance, and heritage workshops, Celtic Kids area, Highland games demonstration, specialty vendors, and plenty of food and drink.

CelticFest is a RAIN or SHINE event due to majority of the festival taking place indoors.

Don Penzien, Founder and Director of CelticFest Mississippi, said, “One of the most gratifying things for me as the founder is walking into a local grocery store, wearing a CelticFest t-shirt and someone in the store will come up to me and say, ‘CelticFest! I go every year; you should make sure you go this year!’ For 23 years I have seen this festival grow and become a tradition in Mississippi and it is wonderful to see how people in the local community have made it their own.”

Several talented music and dance groups will grace all eight stages throughout the weekend, traveling to Mississippi from all over the country and even overseas.

During the festival, competitors in the sanctioned 2015 Guinness Highland Games will face-off in the caber toss, Braemar stone throw and other Highland games on Saturday and Sunday.

The massive Céilí Dance, an ever-popular highlight of CelticFest, will cap off Saturday night. No dance experience is required to participate and beginners are welcome.

On Sunday morning, CelticFest musicians will gather to perform Celtic sacred music during a non-denominational church service.

CelticFest also features fun for the kids; including our Celtic Kids craft area, jumpy castle, Irish dances workshops and children specific performers, the Ag. Museum’s Small Town Mississippi, barn animals and more.

Another traditional event at CelticFest is the 17th Annual Kindred Spirits Whiskey Tasting happening on Friday, September 11th, 7:00-9:00 p.m.

CelticFest partnered with Wine and Spirits in the Quarter to bring participants over 40 different whiskeys to sample and participants will also get to hear from experts in Scottish and Irish spirits.

Admission is $12 in advance and $15 at the door for an adult weekend-pass, $10 for seniors and college students, $5 for children ages 5-17, and $1 for children ages 4 and under.
