REPORT: Jackson's rough roads cost drivers $800 a year

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A report released by a non-profit transportation group called TRIP, says trips along Jackson roads are among the roughest in the nation.

According to TRIP, those poor conditions are costing drivers $818 each year in additional vehicle operating costs. The organization took a look at pavement conditions along city streets and highways across the country.

When it comes to Jackson this report says the Capital City comes in 9th out of 25 for mid-sized urban cities with the poorest roads.

Forty-four percent of major Jackson roads are considered in poor condition.

This report has been released just days before the federal government's July 31st deadline to adequately fund the federal surface transportation program.

The city of Jackson is asking residents to go to the city's website or a local library and provide feedback on the comprehensive plan to address Jackson's infrastructure needs.
