HINDS COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Chase, the dog who was taken along with his master's vehicle last Friday by two Hinds County escapees, won't survive the ordeal.

He was found at a Clinton apartment complex where the criminals had already ditched one ride in favor of a freshly-stolen F-150.

When they did that, somehow Chase managed to get away.

“It all turned out good, and thank God for that," said  owner Joe Cox. "I'm an old man, and I don't need to lose my dog.”

After appearing healthy when he was found, the nine-year-old Golden Retriever started experiencing some health issues over the weekend and was taken to the Mississippi State University Animal Health Center.

Joe Cox's daughter, Megann Cox, posted on Facebook Thursday that Chase is not responding to treatment. She says her mom and dad have decided to have him put down so he won't have to suffer anymore.
