RIDGELAND, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Three burglars who hit more than 13 cars in Ridgeland, are armed and dangerous according to police, and residents.

Ridgeland police say the burglars hit unlocked cars along South Wheatley street in the early morning hours Wednesday. They believe they were looking for cash and other valuables.

One gun was taken from a car, and when a homeowner spotted them, they became violent.

"A man was sitting in his garage, heard voices next door, saw what he believed to be three black males trying to get into a vehicle next door," said Lt. Brian Myers. "He yelled at them and they turned and fired six shots at him. This is very brazen and they almost hit him, so he's very lucky for sure."

Police are asking residents to be on the lookout, and to remember to lock their cars.

"Be vigilant, added Lt. Myers. "If you happen to get up in the middle of the night, look outside.  If  you see something please call us we will respond immediately."

After shooting at the homeowner, the burglars are now facing aggravated assault charges.

Anyone with information on the burglars is asked to call Ridgeland Police at 601-856-5210, or CrimeStoppers at 601-355-8477.
