MADISON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

There was no slowdown of traffic at metro area theaters in the wake of the tragic shootings in Lafayette Louisiana. Before noon, dozens of people were filing in to Malco Grand in Madison, mostly grandparents and their grandchildren.

"Just felt sorry for the victims, for sure, but it didn't deter me from coming to the movies, said Scott Red. "I'm not worried about it at all."

Local police say they're meeting with theaters on ways to maintain a high level of safety for their patrons.

Many theaters in the Jackson metro say they have their own security, in many cases off duty officers, who are stationed inside.
Those we talked to say they're rarely concerned for their safety at the movies.

"Normally it's not the first thing I think about," said Shirley Bogan Dean. "But I've always taught my children when you get out of your vehicle, just be aware of your surroundings."
