Brookhaven is experiencing a spike in violent crime. Just one week after the city held a stop the violence march, another killing happened.

Police are not releasing information about a Thursday night shooting, but according to witnesses, 23 year old Glen Mack was gunned down just off Dr. Martin Luther King, Junior Drive before midnight.

"We had just been gathered around just praying," said Aretha Barnes.

A mother in mourning and a family filled with tears.

"We ask for your peace, your comfort Lord God," said Barnes.

Witnesses told WLBT Glen Mack was shot in a housing area just off Dr. Martin Luther King Junior Drive. He started running up the street and fell on the sidewalk. That's when witnesses dialed 911.

Mack's family said he later died in an area hospital.

"I want the people who did this to him to be caught," said Barnes. "And I know the law will deal with him once he is caught."

Mack's family and friends said he was known to many as Peanut. They said he was a loving father of two small girls.

"He has been so, so wonderful, said Dorothy Mack. I was real proud of Peanut. But, God got us. God got our back."

"I loved him like he was one of my children or grandchildren," said Ella Lyons. "My heart goes out to the family."

On the heels of two recent killings just this month in the City of Brookhaven, Mack's great aunt, Aretha Barnes, said the violence is senseless and devastating.

"He was a sweetheart from baby until now," she added. "That was the saddest news I've gotten when I got the news around 2:30 that he had been shot."
