Neighbor describes suspicious activity after Jackson house fire

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A neighbor says he saw something suspicious after a fire broke out in Jackson Thursday. Sixteen-year-old Allen Griffin came out of his home and spotted smoke a few houses down on Sylvan Trail.

That's when he says he saw flames, and three people, one white man and two black men, running into the woods. After firefighters extinguished the blaze, investigators discovered a body inside.

The Hinds County Coroner has tentatively identified the victim as 35-year-old Tyrone Jones, the person who lived in the home, but that has not been confirmed because of the condition of the body.

"Panic and sadness; I was panicked because I didn't really know what to do, said Griffin. "I was rushing, trying to get my sister, get everything in a hurry, I didn't know. Was the man still in there? Was he not? It was just things going through my head, crazy."

At the time, Griffin said he thought the three people running from the home were just trying to get out. Now he wonders if they were somehow involved.

Right now, authorities are still treating this as a death investigation. No arrests have been made.
